Cancer: a disease where abnormal cells can proliferate without control & are able to invade other tissues (i. e. cancer = malignant). Cancer is a collection of many diseases (i. e. there are 100s of types of cancer depending on the subtype of origin and the type of tumour cell present) Metastasis of cancer allows reaching distant parts of the body by travelling through blood and lymph vessels: spreading of the cancer is usually what causes death to cancer patients. Most cancers are named based on the organ or type of cell in which they start. Cancer arises from a single transformed cells which can give rise to a population (monoclonal differentiation).
