Document Summary

Recombination allows gene targeting: using recombination as a tool to do gene targeting. Mutation: mutation: a double stranded change in dna sequence. Tb says it"s a heritable change in sequence: but mutations don"t have to be heritable; don"t have to pass it to offspring e. g. , thymine dimers. In what way(s) is meiotic recombination mutagenic: already know that dna replication introduces new damage that turns into mutation, meiosis does that as well recombination during meiosis does introduce de novo mutations!!!! Then took data and did gwas (genome wide association studies: using massive amounts of genomic data to figure out which genes might be involved in this variation of recombination landscapes b/w males and females. Polymorphism = another name for variation: mutations can be both an indel and a frameshift and a loss of function. It can be classified in many diff ways. Indels can arise during replication due to slippage . Triplet repeat expansions can give rise to cnv.
