Anatomy and Cell Biology 3319 Lecture Notes - Lecture 6: Upper Limb, Osteology, Ulna
Document Summary
Musculo skeletal anatomy is a lot of memorization. There are a lot of similarities when it comes to naming. Upper limbs are a bit lighter, for doing more complex/fine movements. Lower limbs are heavier so they do more powerful movements. We don"t have to know the definitions for exam, but understand the movement. Flexion is bending or decreasing the angle between body parts. Extension is the exact opposite, i. e. straightening or increasing the angle between body parts. Abduction is moving away from midline, and adducting is closer to midline. Medial rotation is also known as internal rotation. You are turning a body part towards the midline. Lateral/external rotation is rotating body part away from midline. Allows you to put ur arm anywhere in space. Retraction= bottom phase of a push up; drawing shoulder blade/scapula together. Protraction= scapula rotates forward and glides above the rib cage.
