Document Summary

Gross anatomy of the upper and lower systems approach: Upper limb 1: osteology and muscles of the upper limb. Muscle bound: exercise only one part and detriment to the antagonist. Understanding movements of the limbs: flexion / extension, pronation / supination, adduction / abduction, lateral rotation / medial rotation, protraction / retraction. Flexion: decreasing angle of the joint, extension is increasing. Pronation: thumb and then pull it towards the midline. Medial rotation: rotate the head of the humerus, rotate toward midline. Overview: osteology of the upper limb: pectoral girdle (scapula/clavicle, humerus, radius, ulna, bones of the hand. Braces by holding the scapulae and arms out laterally from the thorax: also, the clavicles transmit compression force from the upper limbs to the axial skeleton. The only bone-bone attachment is the clavicle to sternum: sternoclavicular joint. This is why it is easy to dislocate. At the sternal end it is quite rounded. At the acromial end it is quite flat.
