Required readings: soc100: starting points a sociological journey (2nd ed. ) Introductory note: in this course, we will talk about great subject sizes and aggregates, despite that this does not negate an anecdote (personal experience) It is difficult to pursue social research if we cannot set a baseline level for knowledge. This is because there exists multiple perspectives for the same empirical realities. Therefore, if we are interested in conducting social science and research, we need to make a set of assumptions about what we know a(cid:271)out the (cid:862)(cid:396)eal(cid:863) (cid:449)o(cid:396)ld. It has to be noted here that not all ways of knowing and gaining information are equally valid and/or reliable. Sometimes it is not ethically possible to get information, or the data is not available, or the study design is too complicated.
