Document Summary
Psy!00 lecture 6 sensation and perception. Sense of touch: touch receptors for pressure, vibration, sharp pressure etc, collects information from the outside world and sends it to the primary sensory cortex. Sense of taste: chemical senses dissolve in the tongue and are sent to taste centres in the brain. Sense of vision: occipital lobe houses the primary visual cortex. Sense of smell: unique because it"s initial information does not go to the thalamus. It goes directly to areas of the brain, bypassing the thalamus. Sensation: the detection of external stimuli, such as chemical information, sound information, light wave lengths, different sensory information responding and transmitting it to the brain, the brain processes the information and brings it together. Absolute thresholds: how much of a stimuli there has to be in order for us to sense it, to activate receptors, ex. One teaspoon of sugar dissolved in one cup of water is the absolute threshold to detect sugar.
