Attention works after basic physical features are detected but prior to meaningful features. Works very early on, blocks things relevant before they can become meaningful. Early selection view: early on, screening it off (not physical properties) meaningful properties. Cocktail party effect: you suddenly hear your name being uttered in another conversation (not being shouted out loud) when you screen off the surrounding sounds. The only differences i can pick off are physical changes, and all other irrelevant properties being shut off.
