Cancer is not just a human disease, all multicellular organisms have to deal with problems like cancer and abnormal growth even coral and plants: vast majority of organisms have to deal with cancer. Evolutionary concept: struggle between conformity and individuality: we may identify as individual but we are each a cooperative community- all cells have to work together in order to live. Multicellularity takes a lot of work: requires exquisites social cohesion (cooperation) coordination of cells, signals and checkpoints determine when cells divide, die and differentiate, cancer is the collapse o this cooperation. A group of disorder resulting from the loss of cell cycle control. Homogenous cells population- no evolution over time. Certain individuals will become more common as time passes: each round of replication is letting selection occur because some variant is growing faster than the others selection acting so it is more common in next division.
