Document Summary

The myth that lizards are not social animals, and are inherently isolated are not true. For lizards, gidgee skinks have complex social systems, where there are family units, lizards for example defecate at one spot, and have a delayed dispersion where young do not leave early. Males and females bond together, for up to 20 years, and individuals are able to bond for twenty-plus years. Furthermore the offspring are able to follow around males. Non-aggressive males are not bonded to females, but aggressive males tend to roam and fight, it is however possible that the young are likely to be more aggressive. Studying rattlesnakes, they live in areas which are quite cold, and hundreds if not thousands will migrate to warmer areas. Female rattlesnakes do not disperse individual rather they disperse in groups, and females which are pregnant often go to places together. There is anecdotal evidence for squamates which have some form of social behaviour or structure.
