Lagging strand: constantly have to lay down rna primer and synthesize some dna, repeat until you get to end of linear chromosome. Problem at end: can"t lay down rna primers anywhere you want (need to be laid down every 100-200 base pairs) The problem at the ends of chromosomes telomere sequence. Primase: can synthesize strand of rna without 3" end, but needs something to direct which nucleotides to come in to make strand (dna template) Even if we could put a primer right on the end, when we remove the primer we would be missing the end of the sequence.
