Document Summary

Fitness- relative genetic contribution of individuals to next generation as a result of differences in viability and fertility (=darwinian fitness) Selective advantage- some individuals better adapted to the environment thus having higher fitness. Adaptation- any trait that contributes to fitness by making an organism better able to survive or reproduce in a given environment. The evolutionary process that leas to the origin and maintenance of such traits. Domesticated plant and animals, selection experiments in genetics. No purpose or goal, simply a blind mechanistic process with no foresight. Directional- favors one extreme trait (beak size in galapagos finches, harder seeds=bigger beaks) Disruptive- favors both extremes (beak size in african finches, seed size varies=beak size varies) Changed colored due to pollution/smoke from near by factory. When the factory was working and producing smoke, the moths would be grey, to blend in with the grey smoke that would cover the trees.
