Document Summary

Defining population can be formalized by looking at the demographic process, which accounts for parameters that alter populations (births, deaths, number then, and etc. ) A sample must be conducted to measure the number of individuals in a population. Often one cannot guess at what a population is and must use an indices of abundances to measure it. Important for measuring the size of a population, one must look at the distribution of organisms within a population. The congregation of individuals in an area allows organisms to better be alert to a danger. Population change can be predicted by survivorship curves which is constructed through looking at how often and likely organisms survive. In humans survivorship curves remain high through life. In many birds, survivorship remains constant as threats to survival remain constant. The survival rates can of organisms can be demonstrated by a life table, Population change can be equated at n(t)=ne exp rt.
