PSYA01H3 Lecture Notes - Lecture 20: Classical Conditioning, Condom, Operant Conditioning
Document Summary
Skinner believed that certain behaviour has come about by being punished or rewarded. In classical conditioning, generalization refers to the extent to which a stimulus similar to the cs can elicit the cr. Pavlov, sound of one bell similar to the bell used conjures the same response. In operant conditioning, generalization refers to the extent to which a stimulus similar to the discriminative stimulus elicits a response. Looks like a cat, will behave like it is cat. Need to learn critical distinction discrimination between a cat and skunk because they will respond/reward you in different way: animals can learn to both generalize, and simultaneously, to discriminate. In a sense, they learn to categorize stimuli into those that should be responded to, and those that are not worth the effort. All the people know you in different ways. Primary reinforcer: basic drives such as food and protection.
