Green algae is ancestral and gave rise to the group of plants: bryophytes, no cuticle. Hydrophobic film waxy layer which seals the top epidermis and lower epidermis and slows down the loss of water through the leaves. Consequence: loss & uptake of water along whole surface. Bryophytes surface is permeable in order to uptake water: adapted to survive total desiccation state of extreme dryness. Bryophytes can be typically found in very moist and environments (creeks, forests) They can also be found in desserts (due to adaptation)
