Document Summary
It is a protein that binds a glucocorticoid, a steroid hormone. It can bind to the receptor and go into the receptor to regulate gene expression. Presence of gr is important to inhibit secretion of hormones that increase our anxiety when in stressful situations deal with stress. Total hippocampal glucocorticoid receptor expression (mrna) implies gr protein level. The nr3c1 is the gene that encodes the gr; authors examined the methylation status of the promoter. Increased methylation can be linked in the decreased amount of mrna/protein level. Less gr levels in victims highly stressful situations in early life. Shuts down expressing in dealing with anxiety and stress. Glucocorticoid is a hormone released by the adrenal glands. What happened around us and in our environment, can have an impact on our hormonal axis and gene expression. Through silencing of genes, we can inactivate one of the x chromosomes in an embryo.
