Constitute the various and forms of supervision that occur within the community instead of in an institutional setting. More offenders are supervised in the community than institution. Community corrected services are provided by a number of different agencies depending on the jurisdiction. Historically punishment has been community based and has sought to reinforce community norms. During the mid 1800s many became dissatisfied and called for reform. Part off the reform effort led to increase use of indeterminate sentencing and creation of parole here they could be released early after demonstrating good conduct. In the past 25 years there has been a shift to more punitive measures. Probation most common and has seen increase in par with jail and prison. However many correction agencies has seen decreased funding and forced with more lies. Supervising officers" responsibility varies based on area, resources. Some are employees of court, others are correctional employees.
