Document Summary
A social construct: a social construct is used to distinguish people in society based on our physical appearance. e. i. skin color, hair color, eyes. Race is a product of our social construct: a social construct with real implications. 80 years ago, chinese workers firstly immigrated to canada for the construction of the highway. When the government no longer needed more workers, chinese workers were asked to leave canada, or pay high tax. If they did not obey, they would be abused and punished. Race genetic difference: for sociologists, race help human how to categorize people. They also study how this category affect our life: however, there is no biological component when scientists define race. In biology, there is no definition for race. For example, when taxonomists categorize organism, specie and genus are the most precise terms to use. Also, there is no race chromosome: race is just an idea people ascribe to biology.
