Document Summary
Ask a question: what do you t answer the question at the end. Our visual text spreads the message there are higher expectation for women in society in regards to appearance. These higher expectation shape the appearance of women as they feel more obligated to change the way they look to meet society"s expectation. Semiotics is defined as the study of signs and symbols. The 3 semiotic concepts we used to create our visual text are: ideology, encoding and decoding, anchorage. David chandler created the concept of encoding and decoding. We encoded the message through the photos, the timeline and the words. As the girl grows older, her appearance changes as she begins to wear more and more makeup and eventually get a nose job. However, as the boy grows older, his appearance remains mostly the same. This shows that girls are more affected by society.
