Culture views increased convenience within our lives as a sign of progress- E. g. walle film (humans are fat and lazy, not productive or contributing to society because of the convenience that technology has created such as having conveyor belts so they don"t have to walk) Sold technology for reason of progress & making our lives convenient. However, want to overturn faith in these two notions. Progress + convenience often brought out to promote/encourage use of new tech. Progress seen as universal human value--this use of it is problematic, Progress narrative can create inequality locally and internationally. Convenience not often thought about critically, can be used to legitimize problematic technologies/problematic effects of tech. Belief in progress widely held + very often assumed that progress derives from tech & quote. Certain social + political problems arise/are not solved when we let tech solve problems for us.
