Document Summary

Filling left and right atrium from either vena cava or pulmonary pathway. When they are filled, the av valves are opened and their contents are emptied into the ventricles. After all the blood has been pumped out, the semilunar valves open and squeeze the blood out ventricular systole ends. Closing of mitral valve is lub (louder sound since a more muscular valve), closing of aortic valve is dub. Diastole means contraction and diastole means relaxation. Lub shhhh dub this sound has to do with problems of the av valves and how good the valves are closing: this means the bicuspid valve is not closing properly, so it"s called cardiac regurgitation. In general it has smaller cells and a single nucleus, there are also special connections through gap junctions (z lines and desmosomes: special arrangement allows different cells in the cardiac muscle to communicate rapidly.
