Document Summary

Plant cells and stem cell niches have unique properties and characteristics that underlie their abilities. These abilities play a vital role to people and ecosystems. A membrane that bounds the membrane of the chief vacuole. Usually 1 large one, but there may be many. What are some examples of the first function: regulating turgor. What are some examples of the second function: storage/isolation of waste or harmful materials. Protein bodies are modified vacuoles that store resources. What is a proplastid: progenitors of other plastids, colourless, found in meristematic cells of shoots, roots, embryos, endosperms, no distinctive morphology (vary in shape) What is a chloroplast: it is the site of photochemical apparatus, it has distinctive internal membrane organization (like light harvesting thylakoid disks). Chlorophyll pigments and light reactions of photosynthesis are associated with thylakoid membranes: it is green and lens shaped. 4)it is present in all photosynthetic organs and tissues.
