Males and females look alike care of young by both parents. Mammals that lactate: mother can feed young so both parents are not required some offspring feed themselves, e. g. grouse hatchlings. Certainty of paternity high when fertilization is external (e. g. fish, frogs) parental care just as likely by males as by females.
