Sperm cell and egg fuse together and become one ferilized cell, the zygote. Within the irst week the cell begins dividing into 2, then 4, then 6 . The cells begin to difereniate, specializing in structure and funcion (brain, intesine, etc). Around 10 days in the zygote ataches to the mothers uterine wall. The inner cells become the embryo, the outer cells become a placenta which transfers nutrients/oxygen to the embryo. Over the next 6 weeks, the embryos organs begin to funcion. 9 weeks in the embryo looks like a human, now known as a fetus. 6 months in, the organs have developed enough to give the fetus a chance if born prematurely. 6 months in the baby is also responsive to sound and responds to the sounds of its mother"s voice. Immediately ater birth, the baby prefers the mothers voice and language over anyone else"s.
