During the council of trent (1545-1563) the idea of dogma and confession, celibacy of priests, sainthood and purgatory are discussed and confirmed. They also discuss the art and music at the time and decide that music should not be secular and art should not contain profanity. The council wanted a purification of church practice. They also condemned protestantism and considered it heresy, they also believed that you could be saved by good deeds not just faith. They did decide to educate their parish leaders, and wanted a discipline in morality, included less drinking and less interactions with concubines. Jesuits order is created and is founded in 1540, they extended their faith into the (cid:862)ne(cid:449) (cid:449)orld(cid:863) in places like argentina. Missionary projects are introduced and the catholic church seeks to convert people into catholicism. Phillip ii attempted to restore catholicism by marrying 4 women who are leaders in countries that have strong protestant populations.
