Rcmp date revealed that chinese made up 96% of arrests for narcotics. It was used to stigmatize and blame these communities for the drug problems and that they pose a threat to our communities. I(cid:374)for(cid:373)atio(cid:374) fro(cid:373) hospitals sho(cid:449)ed that there was no change and that drugs were not leading to deaths. It was tied to a political problem rather than what they were saying it was. In 2010-2011, black inmates accounted for 9% of the federal prison population in canada although black canadians only compromised 2. 5 % of the overall populations. Lack of cjs to keep the information on racialized communities; but we see it in the increase of incarceration rates. Negative effects: diminished self-esteem, perceived discrimination, and internalized stigma increased fear, a sense of intimidation, reinforced anxieties, and enhanced feelings of helplessness and hopelessness, suicidal thinking, depression and drug use.
