Document Summary

Ecosystems are the same at all points on the same latitude line (all boreal forests around the world on 60deg lat, all deserts on 30deg lat, etc) Solar radiation: energy transmitted from the sun onto earth. Because the earth is not round the amount of solar rad that hits the earth is not the same at all points. The equator (point on earth closest to sun) is the point that gets the most solar rad. This is because the same number of photons in s ray of sun are nite and at more curved points they have to hit more surface thus, the impacted is dissipated. Convection: sun heats up air, it rises, . 3 large convection currents across earth (hadley cells, polar cells, ferrel cells) Convectin currents determine the movement of wind/air (wind patterns) When the earth moves (spins) the atmosphere (wind) lags behind it because the air is less dense.
