Document Summary

Large circle = better for keeping species alive, less extinction. Several small = better for distinct environments and distinct other species kept alive in each habitat. Diamond argues that large habitat is better for keeping alive species that need help being kept alive, ie not dandelions. Less edge effect is better, less influence from outside, more enclose area, less invasion by wind and other. Colonization and immigration from one place to another will be higher when distance is small. Will be more on the right of curve of extinction and immigration rates = more species on habitat. Less chance of travelling creatures of getting killed on the journey between. One on the left has equal distance from each, equidistant, average distance is less, increases connectivity. Different areas will have few species in common = more species in total than in a single large reserve.
