Document Summary

Cholesterol spaces them out and helps the membrane remain luid in low temperatures. Sicking cholesterol in in high temperatures adds stability and rigidity. Pe= more polar, more luid phosphoidal ethylene (spelling?) The ability to change the membrane"s lipid composiion in response to the environment in order to maintain membrane luidity. Fish needs to adjust the membrane composiion to maintain opimal luidity. Over ime, as temperatures change, the composiion of the membrane will change unil it coninues to maintain the opimal pc/pe raio. Terrence the trout is caught from his pond, which is a nice 28 degrees, and transferred to a chilly holding container at 10 degrees. Terry"s cells will respond iniially to the change in temperature but then will adjust. The membrane will become more luid, cholesterol will increase, and the pc/pe raio will decrease. There are proteins in the plasma membrane because they do important shit.
