Document Summary
There is no unified description of a species. Natural selection is now called microevolution, which is slow over time. Population genetics and natural selection based on mendelian genetics (huxley) Darwin: when we look at changes don"t look at an individual, look at the population. Huxley: look at the population, and then score the frequency of an allele in a population, we should see a shift of alleles in a population. Evolutionary changes that result from changes in allele frequencies in a population, or in chromosome structure or numbers die to mutation and recombination. This change can happen in chromosome structure, pieces can break off. Phenotype does not always reflect the genetics. Allele control the appearance of organisms. Hardy and weinberg: their challenge is to figure out how a punnet square can give a prediction of frequency in a population that mates. Don"t worry about the individuals, just count up the number of alleles.
