Document Summary

This is pretty much the idea of evolution used today. It is not significant: he hypothesised that an infuseria (simplest form of life), gradually evolves and changes over time to become more complex over time. 1836, with enough content to have him busy for years. He coined the term artificial selection in regards to breeding faster and faster racehorses: he was placed on the ship as a cabin assistant to the captain. Charles lyell got him on the ship, lyell also gave him his book theories of biology which became his reading material on the ship. He does not know about genetics, but he does know that through artificial selection in dog and horse breeding that you can make changes through breeding. If the change is beneficial it will increase fitness in an organism: darwin never put together evolution with natural selection, the first two proposals received immediate acceptance, however the last 3 were not agreed on so quickly.
