Document Summary

1. breathing- o2 from the environment diffuses into body & co2 diffuses out of the body across the respiratory membrane in the lungs. 2. transport- move the o2 from lungs to cells and removes co2 from body. 3. delivery to cells- cells take o2 from the blood for cellular respiration and release waste (co2) into blood. A process in which a movement of a substance from an area of higher concentration to an area of lower concentration. There"s a higher concentration of o2 in the air than co2. There"s a higher concentration of co2 in the blood than o2. Purifies the air- mucus and cilia trap dust particles and sweep towards the pharynx. Epiglottis covers trachea when you swallow to stop food from getting into lungs. Pharnyx common passageway for food and air. Larnyx vocal cords (cartilage) stretched across top of trachea vibrate to produce sound. Trachea ringed with cartilage to hold air tube open. All but the smallest are ringed with cartilage.
