Document Summary

Procrastination is something that affects everyone and requires motivation to overcome. Classical theories: theory x: people are extrinsically motivated, theory y: people inherently like their work and require intrinsic motivation, to fulfill these type of people"s needs, you need to understand your workers. Two-factor (motivation-hygiene) theory: relates intrinsic factors to job satisfaction and associates extrinsic factors with dissatisfaction. Hygiene factors: when these factors are adequate, people will not be dissatisfied. Opposite of satisfaction is not dissatisfaction because removing dissatisfying characteristics from a job does not make the job satisfying. Need for achievement (nach): the drive to excel and accomplish personal standards and achievements. Need for power (npow): the need to have power/control over the behaviours of others. Need for affiliation (naff): the need to maintain positive relations. Expectancy theory: if you put in a level of effort, you will expect a level of performance. The belief that effort is related to performance.
