Document Summary

Fatigue a decrease in force, velocity and/or power. Reversible decline of muscle performance during activity. Most recovery occurs within an hour or post activity. There is a slow reversible component that can take several days to reverse (prolonged low-frequency force depression) Injury decline in muscle performance that reverses very slowly. Characterized by sarcomere disorder, membrane damage and inflammation. Recover may involve activation of satellite cells and regeneration of damaged fibres: take days to week. Structural damage following heavy resistance exercise and eccentric contractions. After extremely heavy eccentric contractions, a big extent of damage is done to the muscle. During heavy to moderate exercise (usually seen at the gym), a few sarcomeres are disrupted and the z disks are out of place and disrupted. In order to get the muscles back intact, recovery and rest need to happen. During the repair process myofibrils need to be made and make more proteins.
