In 2015 most refugees come from israel-palesinian conlict. More than 90% of deaths from disasters occur in poor countries. Humanitarian emergency: a crisis characterized by large populaion displacement, food shortages, and social disrupion. Natural disasters are cyclical they happen year ater year. Even the richest countries in the world can be hit hard by natural disasters. 1200 ppl killed, millions of dollars in damages. The poor were most afected, because they lived on the lowest lands, which are most suscepible for looding damage. Poor people don"t have house insurance, or even properly built housing. Over in new orleans don"t own their own vehicle, so evacuaion becomes extremely diicult. Near-surface quake, and the density of pop. highest right near the epicentre. Disrupted life pre-quake (un forces had to go in to try and keep peace) Country didn"t have the money to invest in building codes, plus there was a lot of corrupion. Both social and technical elements inluenced the post-quake situaion.
