Mr. rock n roll & the day the music died. By 1959/1960, the music industry was at war with itself. Alan freed: first rock n roll disk jockey star: born in johnstown pennsylvania in 1921. In 1945, he became the host for a jazz station in ohio. After wwii, he briefly hosted a televised dance show, etc. until he was hired at wjw in cleveland, where he got his own radio show. Here he befriended leo mintz, who owned rendezvous records. Mintz convinced freed to play more r&b (louis jordan, etc. ).
