Document Summary

Who are the seed plants: gymnosperms. 3 main traits of seed plants: heterosporous spore production. Two spore types: micro (male, mega (female) Produce dioecious gametophytes: unisexual, male and female gametophytes derived from male or female spores, where are spores produced, microspores are produced in microsporangium (males) They are found in male cone in the gymnosperms. They are found in the anther in the angiosperms. Young microsporangia contain diploid cells to go through meiosis (making them haploid: microsporocytes (2n) Could (cid:271)e (cid:1005)(cid:1004)(cid:1004)(cid:1004)"s of the(cid:373) a(cid:374)d they will go through (cid:373)eiosis to result i(cid:374) (cid:894)(cid:1005)n(cid:895) (cid:373)i(cid:272)rospores. Goes through meiosis to reduce to (1n) and results in 4 megaspores/ovule but 3 of them will degenerate and will not continue on in development: will divide/grow by mitosis and make a mega gametophyte (1n) The megagametophyte is within the ovule, and while it is (1n) the ovule is still (2n: megagametophyte is dependent on parent sporophyte and will receive all of its nutrients from them.
