Biol 1030 part 2: plants with dr. carla zelmer. 1000"s of 1n cells (store lipids, fats and proteins) It undergoes single fertilization (one sperm unites with one egg: produces up to 6 eggs in an ovule (only one will mature into an embryo, angiosperm ovule: Angiosperms: they are the most successful groups of land plants, 2 groups of angiosperms, monocots, includes lilies, dicots, includes roses. The microspores undergo mitosis to form the pollen grains. 3 traits of seed plants: heterospory, ovule and pollen grains and pollen tubes. 2 groups of angiosperms: monocot & dicot. Male parts: anther + filament = stamen. Female parts: stigma + style + ovary = carpel. All these parts are surrounded by petals that attract pollinators, which are surrounded by sepals. Anther (2n) contains microsporangia (2n) which contains microsporocytes (2n) that divide by meiosis to form microspores (n). Microspores develops into a male gametophyte (contained within the pollen grain)
