Theory is just a tool to help make sense of the world around you. They believe that deviance is inherent to the act. If you want to gure out if something is deviant and you are an objectivist just look at the person or the act. Leads you into looking for if the act or person causes harm, rarity, reaction, norms/values. Merton"s anomie, di erential association, techniques of neutralization, strain theory. Deviance is nothing more than a social construct. Deviant is a framework of understanding and is a label you attach to something (most people just agree that something is deviant) Labelling theory, con ict, postmodernism (did not do), certain feminist theories (look in text) Look at examples of how certain things were deviant before and are no longer nd vice versa (such as having a tattoo back then) There is some common ground between objectivist and subjectivist. Violates norms/values (objective) but they are socially constructed.
