Document Summary
Life: universal, the thing that never changes (refer to diagram: the world in which self-conscious desire found itself in, then life split. Self-consciousness is not just a focus on self trying to affirm itself through negation of living things. The substance of self-consciousness is negation or negativity. If both were fearful, then the relationship would stop relationship of indifference. One needs to fulfill its desire, the other recognizes that it risks not being able to desire at all. There is a permanence in slavery, whereas desire didn"t have any permanence. As a master, you get the recognition of self-consciousness, and the permanence of the thing (slave) which gives you recognition. The struggle is necessary because otherwise desire would stay in the earlier phase. Slave is a self-consciousness who hasn"t fully realized it yet master is an essential self- consciousness who hasn"t achieved freedom. In life, relationship between self-consciousness and living thing is negative.
