World is a good place because diversity of cultures is a good thing. Argument for paternalism: articulating a set of cross-cultural norms as benchmark for the worlds vaired societies, we impinge on peoples feedoms. Many existing values system: highly paternalistic, particularily toward woman. They treat them as unequal under the law as lacking full civil capacity and as not having the property rights, associative liberties and employment rights of males. Need to have a way of enshrining rights for all people if we all care about liberty. The fact that: one nation is more prosperous doesn"t tell us what the government has done for women in various social classes. First step: need to look at how resources are being distributed ex. However: resource based approach like rawls is limited because induviduals vary in their ability to convert resources into functionings.
