Emoional regulaion: the ability to control when and how emoions are expressed. It is the pre-eminent psychosocial accomplishment between ages 2-6. Erikson"s third psychosocial crisis, in which children undertake new skills and aciviies and feel guilty when they do not succeed at them. Depending on the outcome (usually peoples reacions) children feel proud or guilty. Greatly depends on parents- parents should encourage enthusiasm, efort and pride in their 2-6 year olds, when they criicize and hinder children from exploring their environment, children may become dependent, lack iniiaive and fail to learn emoional regulaion. Children"s beliefs about their worth are connected to parental conirmaion, especially when parents remind their children of their posiive accomplishments. Self- concept: a person"s understanding of who he or she is, incorporaing self esteem, physical appearance, personality and various personal traits, such as gender and size. When young children are given choices it makes the child believe they are independent.
