Recidivism rate of sexual offenders is 13% There are a lot of factors that are involved in the decision in committing an assault. Until recently sexual crime was a crime mainly researched and studied by psychologists criminology has stayed on the sidelines when it came to research on sexual offenders. Psychologists did research because it was thought that sexual offenders suffered from a mental disorder. Criminology can explain sexual crimes and sexual offenders because they are not so different than other offenders. This is to satisfy the public, and to inform the public. Government is more concerned about pubic opinion rather than evidence. Sex offenders are specialists, they specialize in sexual offending most of their crimes should be sexual, their overall crimes are sexual ones this is an assumption and its false. We know this because of the different studies that have been conducted in criminology. Research found that sex offenders are similar, they are not specialists.
