Document Summary

Cogs 110 - lecture 5 - spacing of practice. If material is well practiced people can remember things for a very long time. Humans have ability to remember things for a very long time. Would do test a long time after. Questions sampled from standardized tests of algebra between 1935 and 1986. Participants age ranged from 19 to 84. Wanted to know how good ppl are at algebra. Wanted to predict how good people would be. Results - best predictor of retention - subsequent exposure to/practice w/ algebra. Participants who took 3 ot more university math courses where most advanced course was calculus, show virtually no loss of algebra knowledge during following 50 years, even when there was no measurable rehearsal. Grades in math mattered less than how many courses. Most important - taking lots of courses & practicing more. More you practice it, more likely you will be able to remember for a long time.
