Document Summary

The material on which we print is referred to as a substrate. Other materials used in packaging that we do not directly print on we can call simply materials. A typical beer bottle has a paper label (substrate) and a glass bottle (material) Common examples in packaging include plastic, paperboard, metal, corrugated and glass. One of the oldest forms of packaging. Common colours include clear (flint), green and amber. Light penetrates lighter containers, which is why most beer is in green or amber glass bottles. Ingredients are mixed > melted > formed > annealed > coated > inspected. It"s better to have more recycled content for glass.
