Pretend play is frequently acknowledged on its own but is part of smilansky"s cognitive developmental model of play: functional. Creating, building something like a house out of blocks. 3-6 years: pretend, games with rules. Understanding and following established rules for a game. Rough and tumble play intention is not to cause harm but to have fun. Not good for un-popular child: may actually get hurt. The way you choose friends is important how it changes over time. Dimensions on which elementary school children often evaluate their friendships. Validation and caring: boost you up, make you feel good about yourself. Conflict resolution: want friends that they can make up easily with.
