Asked to describe every detail about their experience with very detailed descriptions. Mental atoms would be collected and sifted through. Functionalism: knowledge through understanding utility: william james researched the purpose of the conscious behavior, experimentation and naturalistic introspection. You would get a different response from each person who was involved because everyone was different.
