Historical context of the evolution of the post ww2 political economy including the key institutions (imf, world bank and wto) Examination of the evolution of debates over policy and strategy for the promotion of development. Examination through political economy lens of the possibilities and pitfalls of csr and bric as alternative ways forward. Lecture: outline key themes and ideas for the week, review important material and ideas from previous weeks, set up tutorial for the next day. Political economy is not simply economics & politics, it examines and asks how power creates particular forms of economics and politics within, across and between societies. By using a political economy perspective we examine how different types of power structure the institutions, processes and outcomes of global development".
