Document Summary

Stream erosion: progressive removal of mineral material from the floor and sides of the channel, whether bedrock or regolith. Stream transportation: movement of the eroded particles dragged over the stream bed, suspended in the body of the stream, or held in solution. Stream deposition: accumulation of transported particles on the stream bed and flood plain or on the floor of a lake, where it may be temporarily held until it is (ultimately) carried to the oceans. Sediments can be dissolved in the water itself as ions (dissolved load) Suspended load has sediment particles suspended in the water: bedload is sediments that are kept along the stream bottom on the stream bed but are moved along through the water. Stream channels: key concepts: erosion and deposition, degradation (e. g. vertical erosion) and lateral erosion, aggradation (e. g. vertical deposition) and lateral deposition. Straight channel: mountain streams: straight channel (pools and rapids) Large sweeping curved that develop best on floodplains where land is flat.
