Dsm iv used to include both under mood disorder. Two separate categories in dsm v: etiology may be different for mood disorders with and without manic episodes. Episodic: period of depression or mania (distinction between the two) for hours/days/weeks then return to normality. Depression most common clinically (high prevalence) (not as high as phobias: among most treatable despite being severe and debilitating. Depressive disorder due to another medical condition. Other specified depressive disorder: recurrent brief depression, short-duration depressive episode, depressive episode insufficient symptoms. Severe, recurrent temper outbursts manifested verbally and/or behaviourally (physical aggression towards people or property) that are out of proportion in intensity or duration to the situation or provocation. The outbursts are inconsistent with developmental level: subjective. The outbursts occur, on average, 3-5 times per week. The mood between outbursts is persistently irritable or angry most of the day, nearly every day, and is observable by others.
