Document Summary

New working world in factories: new roles old shops used to have hierarchies (who does what) and had independence, made things from start to finish. With the industrial revolution tasks were broken down. Only played a small role in one menial task. Deskilling (did a small part, then passed it on to another to do a small skill themselves and so on) Alienation (used to be that if you were working in a small shop, you were heavily invested in what you made, what you did was a part of you) With the process broken down, you don"t feel invested, don"t see yourself in what you"ve created. Working with strangers, large groups of people you don"t know, share nothing with these people besides your task. In the past individuals knew who they were working with, etc. Status & gender (loss of independence, most master craftsman lost their status and just became workers)
